Evan Bichon Ski Chalet

The District of Mackenzie proudly celebrated one of our hometown heroes on Thursday, July 9, with the official renaming of the chalet at Little Mac Ski Hill in honour of Olympic Athlete Evan Bichon.

Residents, family, friends, and community leaders gathered at the hill to recognize Evan's outstanding athletic achievements and the pride he has brought to our community through his dedication, perseverance, and success on the world stage.

The newly named Evan Bichon Ski Chalet will serve as a lasting tribute to a local athlete whose journey from Mackenzie to the Olympics continues to inspire current and future generations.

The District would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Evan Bichon, for returning home to be part of this special occasion and for representing Mackenzie with excellence throughout his athletic career.

We would also like to thank Evan's father, Ryan Bichon for helping make the event possible, as well as Deputy Mayor Kyle Tapper and Councillors Viktor Brumovsky, Jesse Wright, and Raye McMeeken for participating in the ribbon cutting. A special thank you goes to Councillor McMeeken for her beautiful musical performance.

Additional thanks are extended to Bill Laing for sharing remarks during the event and helping commemorate this important milestone.

Community events like this are made possible through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers and organizations. The District sincerely thanks the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 237 Mackenzie, for preparing and serving hot dogs for attendees, and Silver Dove Imagery for capturing the event.

The renaming of the Evan Bichon Ski Chalet reflects the community's appreciation for an athlete who has achieved excellence while remaining connected to his roots. This recognition celebrates not only Evan's accomplishments on the world stage, but also the values of determination, perseverance, and community spirit that he embodies. We are honoured to celebrate his achievements and grateful that he returned home to share this special milestone with the residents of Mackenzie.
