Mayor’s Message – November 4, 2026 Bus Accident on Highway 39

District of Mackenzie Mayor Pete Kyllo’s message about the Bus Accident on Highway 39 on November 4, 2026

On behalf of Council and the District of Mackenzie our thoughts are with all those involved in the tragic bus accident that took place in our community earlier this week.

I’d like to thank all local and regional emergency teams for their assistance. At this time, it appears we had the best possible outcome. With it being close to town our emergency teams were on site quickly and patients were brought to locations to receive appropriate care.

Thank you also to Surerus Murphy and Enbridge for offering their ETV’s and medics to assist and we had six air ambulances on the tarmac at our airport soon afterwards.

As always with these incidents, we will be exploring ways to improve. We are fortunate to have trained personnel and the equipment needed to assist as time is critical for survival.

Thank you,

Pete Kyllo
Mayor
