Recreation Centre Pool Temporarily Closed

The pool will be closed from March 29 to April 28 to allow for flooring repairs, including addressing areas where the flooring has begun to significantly deteriorate. The goal is to complete the work ahead of the swim club’s meet in May, and hopefully open ahead of schedule.

Following the installation of the new pool deck and change room flooring in November 2024, unexpected staining was identified. A deep cleaning process was completed and successfully removed staining in most areas. However, yellow discoloration remains in sections where UV treatment was applied, such as in toilet areas. In addition, wear and bare patches have recently been observed in select areas of the flooring. The manufacturer has advised that this may be related to a reaction with a previously recommended cleaning product and has since identified a solution to address the affected areas.

The new pool deck flooring was selected with safety and comfort as top priorities. Its anti-fatigue, shock-absorbing, and slip-resistant properties contribute to a safer environment for both patrons and staff. Over time, these features are expected to help reduce strain on knees, hips, and backs, supporting a decrease in work-related injuries.
