Notice of Park Removal
It is with heavy hearts we announce Community Market Park will be dismantled and no longer available for public use as of May 19, 2026.
Background
In 2014, the District entered into a Licence Agreement with Imperial Oil that allowed the District to beautify the contaminated vacant lot, previously home to a gas station, at the corner of Mackenzie Blvd. and Centennial Drive. As a result of this partnership, in 2018, the community celebrated the Grand Opening of Community Market Park.
In 2024, Imperial Oil approached the District to purchase the property, however a decision was made to not accept the offer of the site due to the level of liability the District would be taking on as the contamination on site had spread to surrounding properties.
Imperial Oil has now given the District notice they intend to move forward with taking full control of the site again and complete remediation work necessary to make the property available for commercial sale.
Moving Forward
Imperial Oil is planning to start excavation work on this site at the beginning of June 2026 and the District is required to move all park infrastructure by the end of May.
Park assets, such as benches, the carving, and signage will be relocated to other District parks. A new location to host a weekly community market is being explored.
The District recognises the importance of this space to the community and understands the disappointment this may cause.
