 “Charge into Fire Safety™

Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home”

From phones to power tools, Mackenzie Fire Rescue is urging residents to buy, charge, and recycle lithium-ion batteries safely.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” focuses on the growing risks linked to everyday devices powered by lithium-ion batteries—such as phones, tablets, laptops, e-bikes, and power tools—and the simple steps we can all take to reduce those risks.

Lithium-ion batteries are efficient and long-lasting, but when damaged or misused they can overheat, catch fire, or even explode. Safe handling and proper charging can greatly reduce the danger.

Tips to stay safe:
• Only use manufacturer-approved batteries, chargers, and cords.
• Charge devices on hard surfaces, not on beds or couches.
• Unplug once fully charged.
• Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the garbage—recycle them safely at www.recycleyourbatteries.ca.

Fire Prevention Week is also a great time to check your smoke alarms, review your home escape plan, and talk with family members about fire safety.

Mackenzie Fire Rescue thanks everyone for helping keep our community safe and fire-ready.
