District of Mackenzie Receives Community Leadership Award

We are honoured and excited to share that the District of Mackenzie was the recipient of a Community Leadership Award for Environmental Stewardship from the North Central Local Government Association for the Arena Slab and Energy Upgrades Project! Thank you to the NCLGA, the Government of Canada, South Peace Mackenzie Trust, District staff, and all our community and corporate partners who helped us complete this project.

Key Project Improvements

• Full replacement of the arena ice slab and underfloor heating system - Time-lapse Video
• Installation of new dasher boards and protective glass
• Upgrades to HVAC systems, hot water heaters, and full integration with a new DDC control system
• Implementation of solar panels and a heat recovery system - solar panel dashboard 
• Estimated annual energy savings: 27%
• Estimated annual GHG reduction: 158 tonnes
