Arena Slab & Energy Project Update!
Arena Slab & Energy Project Update!
We want to inform our community that the Arena Slab & Energy project is scheduled to commence on April 1, 2024, with an anticipated completion date of August 28, 2024. During this time, the arena area of the building will be 100% unavailable due to safety reasons. We kindly ask all residents to remove any equipment stored in the arena area to prevent damage during construction.
We understand that this may cause inconvenience, and we apologize in advance for any disruptions. Our team will provide further updates on social media as they become available.
About the Project:
The District of Mackenzie's arena ice slab, installed in 1974, is in need of replacement. With recent brine leaks affecting ice quality, it's evident that action is necessary. This project will not only extend the lifespan of our facility by 30 plus years but also reduce operating costs and environmental impact significantly.
Improvements Include
- Replacement of Arena Slab & Underfloor
- Replacement of Arena Dasher Boards, Glass Shielding, & Building Insulation
- Upgrades to HVAC Units, Water Heaters & DDC Integration
- Installation of Solar Panels & Heat Recovery System
Funding Details:
The total budget for the project is $3,509,626, with $158,250 in contingency. Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada's Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program and the South Peace Mackenzie Trust, we've secured $2,645,753 in grant funding. However, the District of Mackenzie is responsible for $863,873, and we continue to seek additional grants to reduce this amount.
