The District of Mackenzie is honoured to recognize two extraordinary members of our community by renaming the Mackenzie Recreation Centre weight room after Special Olympics powerlifter Pierce Northcott and his coach, Bryce Surgenor.

Pierce has become an inspiration in Mackenzie through his commitment to training, his determination, and his accomplishments as a Special Olympics athlete, breaking the world record in deadlift. His passion for powerlifting and his steady progression in the sport reflect the strength, resilience, and spirit our community is so proud of.

Supporting him every step of the way is coach Bryce Surgenor, a dedicated powerlifter himself with an impressive competitive record. His experience, discipline, and mentorship have played a key role in Pierce’s development both on and off the platform.

Renaming the weight room after Pierce and Bryce is a way for the community to recognize their dedication, hard work, and positive influence on local athletes. Their commitment to strength, inclusion, and supporting others reflects the values we’re proud to celebrate at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre.
