The District of Mackenzie has an opportunity for a Full-Time position of Deputy Fire Chief. Reporting to and under the general direction of the Fire Chief/Emergency Program Coordinator, The Deputy Fire Chief is responsible for the development, delivery, and ongoing evaluation of high-quality fire and rescue training programs that ensure the District of Mackenzie Fire/Rescue Department (DOMFRD) areas maintain a professional and efficient fire protection service. In addition to overseeing training, the Deputy Fire Chief supports the Fire Chief in the daily operations of the DOMFRD. This includes ensuring that the department’s activities align with the organization's strategic vision, goals, and objectives, while also reflecting the community’s values and culture. The role requires a blend of strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in the operational aspects of the department. Additionally, the Deputy Fire Chief serves as the Deputy Emergency Program Coordinator, contributing to broader emergency management efforts. The Deputy Fire Chief is also responsible for the management of the volunteer firefighter force.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education, training, and at least five (5) years of experience in the fire service, including operations, training, and administration. This should be coupled with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a leadership role, such as a Company Officer or Chief Officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, foster positive relationships through collaboration, and possess comprehensive knowledge of fireground operations, daily operations, training, and fire prevention. Additionally, experience working with personnel in a volunteer environment and a solid understanding of local government legislation, codes, and practices is essential.
Relevant fire certifications, along with several years of experience as a firefighter or fire officer, are required. The successful candidate will be expected to complete any remaining necessary training and certifications within the first year of service, if not already fully certified.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week with an annual salary between $87,396-$94,116 and an excellent benefits package.
