Councillor Hipkiss Resigns from Mackenzie Council
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mackenzie BC - Councillor Amber Hipkiss has resigned as a District of Mackenzie Councillor effective August 16, 2024. Councillor Hipkiss has served on Council for 10 years, having been first elected in 2014. She indicated that her decision to resign was due to personal changes in her life that have caused her to relocate to Prince George, making it difficult to commit the time to her Council duties.
Councillor Hipkiss shared that "serving the community for the last ten years has been a privilege and a most rewarding experience. This decision was not easy, I will truly miss representing this community. Working with the District staff, and especially the CAO and our current directors, has been truly an honour. While I’m sad to step away, I know that Mackenzie couldn’t be in more capable hands. Thank you for the support, trust, and opportunities you have provided me during my tenure. I am proud of the work we have accomplished together and look forward to watching this fabulous Council continue to move Mackenzie in the right direction.”
Mayor Atkinson commented that “Council and staff are very sorry to see Amber leave our team, but are extremely grateful for her many contributions to our community. Amber has always been motivated by her love of Mackenzie and she will certainly be missed. We wish her well in this next exciting chapter of her life.”
The official date for a by-election will be set following the appointment of the Chief Election Officer.
