Fact Sheet: Demolition of the Ernie Bodin Community Centre
At the Council Meeting on July 25th, it was decided the District would proceed with the decommissioning and demolition of the Ernie Bodin Community Centre (EBCC) within a two-year timeframe. This decision was made based on multiple facility assessments, engagement with tenants, and consideration of the District’s long-term financial plans.
The EBCC is a modular building constructed around 1970 and consists of 25 modules joined together. The building is single story with a crawlspace and was originally constructed to serve as a hospital. Since then, a change in use has occurred and the building now operates as a community center. This change in use has changed building code and safety requirements for the facility. At over 50 years old the modular building has far outlived the expected age of a facility of this type.
The District recognizes the EBCC has been a pivotal part of the Mackenzie community offering space for a diverse group of tenants. We intend to support the current users where we can with their transition from the EBCC.
