Each Spring, the District along with residents of Mackenzie work together to help clean up our community! Residents will gather together, either in teams or as individuals, and be designated an area of the community to go out and pick up garbage.
Register yourself or your team today by contacting the Recreation Centre at 250-997-5283.
Safety Note: Protective footwear, safety glasses and hi-visibility clothing are recommended. Rubber gloves, garbage grabbers and garbage bags will be supplied with garbage bins located throughout the town.
Please be aware of your surroundings, watch for passing vehicles, wildlife, and other hazards. Wash your hands thoroughly after completing your project area.
Do not carry heavy or bulky items. Please inform Public Works staff of the item location at 250-997-3761.
Do not touch hazardous items such as needles. Inform the Recreation Centre staff of the item location at 250-997-5283.
Need to do a bit of spring cleaning at home? The District will also be offering curbside pick-up for garbage, yard waste, and appliances, which gives you an opportunity to get rid of any old household items that may be taking up space. Tree pruning’s up to a thickness of 3 inches will be collected.
*NEW* Fridges, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers, and other appliances will be accepted this year. Eavestroughs, poles, and pipes etc. will also be accepted as long as they are cut into lengths of less than 8 ft.
For those that wish to place items curbside for pick up on Friday May 3rd, you can start placing them on Thursday May 2nd. Public works will make several patrols of Mackenzie and Gantahaz to collect and dispose of those items. A final patrol will be made, and no items picked up after 12:00 pm on May 3rd.
If you have any questions regarding the Community Clean-Up Event, please contact Scott Drysdale at 250-988-1463.
